The door scrapes the floor and is hard to operate. Are the hinges to blame?
Very likely yes. Hinges loosen over time, settle, and the door leaf drops. In most cases adjusting the existing hinges is enough.
What other issues can poorly adjusted hinges cause?
A door that doesn't sit properly in the frame doesn't seal well – cold, draughts and noise get through, and even the best weatherstrip won't help. Proper adjustment also extends hinge life by distributing the door's weight evenly across all hinges. Finally, locking itself can be impaired when the latch doesn't line up with its strike plate.
Do you also adjust hinges on windows and balcony doors?
Yes – plastic, wooden and aluminium ones where the design allows. We also replace hinges if their condition requires it.
